Make It Crafty Anything but a Card Challenge

The fourth Wednesday of every month is a Fun Challenge over at the Make It Crafty blog. Our challenge this month is to make anything but a card.  I seem to be on a Gift Box trend so that is what I made.

Using my new Scallop Oval and Oval Stackers Nesting dies from Cheery Lynn Designs, I created the box.  It measures 5 5/8 x 7 1/4 inches.  I cut chipboard for the top and the bottom, adding the card stock so it is quite sturdy.  I sized this great Jolly Santa image from Make It Crafty to fit one of the nesting dies and printed it onto Cryogen paper with my inkjet printer.  I used my Copics to color the image.  The DP is from the Bo Bunny Gift of Love collection.  The Poinsettia is another great die from Cheery Lynn Designs.  I dry embossed the petals and leaves to give them a rounded look.  The swirl embellishments are a Fiskars punch.

Be sure to stop by the Make It Crafty blog to see what the rest of the Design Team has created for you.  And enter for a chance to win fabulous prizes.

A comment was left asking how I made the base of the box.  First I die cut the inside DP oval; then I cut 2 strips of card stock, 2.5 inches wide.  I taped them together long ways so that I had a strip of paper 2.5 inches tall that would wrap all the way around the outer edge of the DP.  I scored this strip at .5 inches, folding it in and cutting about every 3/4 of an inch to make tabs.   Using very strong tape and working a few tabs at a time, just slowly mold the strip around your DP oval to make the base.  On the bottom side of the lid, add slightly smaller ovals, built up enough that they will sit inside the base and the lid will stay on.  Hope this helps.

Sandy: You've done it again, the box is gorgeous. Please tell me how you made the box. I understand the top and bottom and I've made square boxes this way but never an oval. Please explain so I can 'steal' it for my hubby's Xmas present. Cindy
