This is one of 2 matching maples in my front yard. Zeke, my basset hound is just on the left to give you some perspective of how large this tree is.
It is really sad because there was a robin's nest in the part that fell and all 4 babies were dumped onto the ground. I found them this morning, 2 are barely alive. I moved the nest upright and put them back in it but I don't have much hope for Mom and Dad to return. Poor little things!
I will have to cut the entire tree down (after the other baby robin's in the nest in the part that is upright have left the nest) It has split all the way down to the ground. It was a lovely shade tree and I will miss it. I have no power, it has been out for almost 18 hours and not expected to be restored for another 12 hours. But I have a generator so I am fine. I am surprised that my wireless internet is up but the tower is not in the affected area. There are many trees and power lines down in my area but I did not hear of any injuries, thankfully. I hope everyone is enjoying their Memorial Day. It is supposed to get very hot and humid here.

THis sure is the year of storms! Glad you're safe. :-)
I was wondering how everyone up that way was-following the storm trackers online and saying this place has a funnel but not touchdown and another has no power. Glad you are okay. You can buy a new tree. We can't buy another you. Crazy Michigan weather--but this heat is better than snow and cold. (my birdies left the nest Saturday morning-what a squawk those babies made when mom kicked them out!).
I know what you mean about being sad to see the loss of this beautiful tree. I so love trees ... and this was truly a beauty! Sorry about the loss of power ... that gets so difficult. Hopes & prayers that all will return to safer weather and a sense of normalcy soon.

Most important thing is you are OK! It is a beautiful tree, what a shame... and the little birdies.... Sorry you had the bad weather move thru... just a terrible season for storms this year.
Zeke looks like he has no worries... lounging around in the green grass!

Thought of you Sunday eve. when they said the storm was going thru Fowlerville, Sandy. Too bad you had to lose such a pretty tree and with a filled nest in it, too. You must be grateful it wasn't real close to the house. Hope power returns soon - at least you can stamp by daylight. Take care.
So sorry about your beautiful tree. It takes so many years to grow, then Mother Nature can destroy it in minutes. Sorry about the baby birds also. Hope your power is on soon. We were off over 24 hours, but up and working again. Take care. Edna
Oh Sandy, what a heartbreak, the poor little birds and that tree is magnificent. Yikes, what a year for storms. Hope you stay safe, I'' be thinking about you.
