Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving

I took a class at Stitch in Time in Howell, Mi in November to learn to weave on a Schacht Cricket Rigid Heddle Loom, the 15 inch version.  I liked it so much that I purchased the loom and have been thoroughly enjoying myself.

This was my class project, a lovely lightweight scarf.

My next successful project was weaving two kitchen towels with Peaches and Cream cotton yarn from Walmart.  The warp is mostly variegated with a few warps of solid color to created the stripes.  The weft is entirely the variegated yarn.  I used the entire 15 inch span of my loom with a #8 Dent Heddle.  Length is about 23 inches.

Next, I wanted to try a Houndstooth pattern.  So I made this scarf, 72 inches by 8 inches.  I used Caron Simply Soft Acrylic Yarn, Charcoal Heather and Grey Heather and a Houndstooth 2x2 pattern, again with a #8 Dent.

My latest project was to learn to warp float.  I watched Kelly Casanova's YouTube videos to learn how to use a pick up stick and then what pattern to follow to create the warp floats (the longer vertical stitches on the scarf)  I used Caron Simply Soft Acrylic yarn, Crayon Variegated for warp, Black for weft with #8 Dent.

Now I want to learn to do a weft float.  I am having so much fun and wish I had a bigger loom to create some throw rugs for my kitchen.  Come on tax return!

These are beautiful! I bet you could make a few and stitch them together as a solution maybe?

I started quilting and just love the brain break between papercrafting projects. It's nice to have variety in crafting and nice to create items of tangible usefulness also.
