Valentine Heart basket

I was inspired to make this little heart Valentine basket today after reading Bev's post on her blog.

Rather than use the template, I chose to use the two largest heart Nestabilites in the set. I die cut two of the plain hearts from the DP by Doodlebug and cut two scalloped hearts from Cryogen white.

For the sides, I cut a piece of red card stock 6 x 2.5 inches, scoring lengthwise at the 1/2 inch mark on both sides. I also scored it at the center and then cut out notches as shown on the template.

For the handle, I cut a piece of Cryogen white paper 1.5 inches x 11 inches. I punched down both sides with my Martha Stewart Lace punch. (Note: after punching one side, be sure to flip the paper over before punching the other side so the scallops will line up) Once I had both sides punched, I mounted it onto a piece of red card stock and trimmed close to the lace scallops. I added some red with white polka dots ribbon down the center and then adhered it to the basket. I added a brad to both sides for extra holding power.

The flowers are from my Bucket of Blooms by Prima, I airbrushed the red one to match. In real life, this basket is a true red but for some reason my pictures always look more orange.

Finished size is 6 inches from the tip of the heart to the handle and 4.5 inches across the heart at the widest point. Just the perfect size to fill with candies for the sweetie in your life.

It's too pretty to give away! It would be great to display all my Valentine cards in. Oh, I forgot I only get one from my hubby! I love it although I am not sure how easy that handle was.
