Wizard at Work

Here is a scene I created for my swap partner on the Sutter Stamps Yahoo group.  The wizard is a digi image from Mo Manning.  I sized and printed it onto Cryogen Metallic paper with my laser printer.  I added a mask using Eclipse Tape and then stamped the scene around it.  The scenic stamps are from Sutter Stamps as well as Stampscapes.  I used Copic markers to color the scene.  Finished size is around 7.5 x 10 inches.

Scenic Window Vista

Here is a great way to use your Cheery Lynn Designs Window dies. These dies will cut a window into the front of your card but I wanted a window frame so I could add a stamped scene behind it.  I first cut a piece of white card stock, 3.25 x 4.75 inches, centered my Window C die and ran it through my die cutter.  Next I cut a piece of glossy card stock, 3 x 4.5 inches and stamped my scene.  The mountain and river is one stamp from Sutter, the two tree tops in the foreground are from Stampscapes.  I stamped with Marvy Matchables black ink, adding color with a stylus and Adirondack Lettuce, Stonewashed and Latte.  Then I simply centered the window frame on the scene, added it to a blue panel and then to my card.  Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Skating Pond

Did you have a skating pond when you were a kid?  I went skating on Barnegat Bay in New Jersey one winter as a child.  It was pretty scary as the ice kept making all sorts of loud noises.  It has to be pretty cold to freeze salt water.  This is the second week of the Winter theme challenge at Craft a Scene and I have created a scene around this fabulous digi image from Tickled Pink Stamps.  I printed Ice Skater Sookie onto Cryogen paper, then printed a mask onto Eclipse tape and cut it out.  Then I began my scene.  I started with the mountains from Sutter, then added the banks from Stampscapes.  I created the little bushes on the banks by using just the tops of Maple Trio and  Maple Pair.  I colored the scene with my Copic markers then airbrushed the sky and edges to deepen the color.  The last step was the framing elements top and bottom as well as the gulls all from Stampscapes.  Finished size is 5 x 7 inches.  Be sure to visit the Craft a Scene challenge blog for more inspiration and to join in on the fun.

Craft a Scene Challenge 2 - Winter Theme

Today is the second challenge over at Craft a Scene and our first design team post.  The theme this month is Winter.

When I think Winter scenic, I reach for my Sutter Stamps.   They have a fabulous collection of winter themed stamps requiring very little work.  For this scene, I started with the mountain at the top and then built the scene forward.  I used Eclipse tape to mask my Elk as well as the mountains when I added the sky.  The great thing about Winter scenes is the coloring; less is best.  This is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto Cryogen card stock.  I used Copics B000 for detail work, then airbrushed B00 and B21 into the sky and around the edges.  The Gulls and framing elements top and bottom are from Stampscapes. Finished size is 5 x 7 inches.

Be sure to visit the Craft A Scene blog and see what the rest of the design team has created for you.  And won't you join in the fun of the challenge?

Bears at Night

In class today, we did a mono-chromatic night scene.  The bear and water stamp is from Sutter Stamps, the rest are from Stampscapes.

We started by stamping the bears and waterfall stamp, then adding the Milky Way above it (using Marvy black ink on glossy paper)  Next we added the cattails in the foreground and the branches along the top.  For color we used a stipple brush and 3 shades of blue dye ink, Adirondack Lights Cloudy Blue, Earthtones Stonewashed and Earthtones Denim.  The last step was to add the white highlights with a gel pen.  Here is a second version without any white highlights-

Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Sutter Cardinals

Here is a card I made for a swap on the Yahoo Sutter stamps group.  We had to make an ornament, I chose to make a card with an ornament on it.  Both the ornament with pine and the cardinals are from Sutter Stamps.  I stamped them with Memento Tuxedo black ink then colored the image with my Copic markers.  The poinsettia is made with punches from Nellie Snellen, the pine and snowflake are Martha Stewart punches.  I added Stickles to the the scallops on the red circle and the pine branches.  I added Sparkly Fluff to the snow.  Finished size is 6: square.

Embossing Paste Buck

In case some of you do not subscribe to my other blog, I thought I should add these here as well.  I had a wonderful time today with my monthly stamping ladies, Hi, Girls!  We made lots of fun stuff.  This card was a collaboration between myself and Beverly Hubbard (very talented lady)  She had done one and we liked the buck so much, we wanted to try one for ourselves.  The buck is a DreamWeaver stencil and he is done with embossing paste.  I have two versions, one is an end of summer look

the second is a winter look
The scenic elements are all Sutter Stamps, stamped with Marvy black ink onto glossy card stock.  The background colors were added with a Colorbox Stylus.  For the Summer scene I used Adirondack Willow and Lettuce for the grass, Cloudy Blue for the sky and a bit of Sandal on the trees.  I had slight technical difficulty with the paste and splobbed some below the buck.  So I hid it with Flower Soft.  I colored the buck with a watercolor brush and USArtQuest Vintage MicaColor Paint.  It has a great shimmer to it.  For the Winter scene, I added just a hint of Aqua to the background and Sandal to the trees.  The buck is colored the same way, I just made the colors deeper.  Finished size is 4 5/8 x 6 3/8 inches.

Winter scene for Cheryl

This is the final card we made in our class on Friday, a request from Cheryl to make a snow scene.

I began by stamping the elk from Stampin Up and then I built the scene around him using winter stamps from Sutter.  First came the Right Snow Cover F1271 in the lower right corner.  Next was the Left Snow Cover F1269 just to the left of the elk's hooves, followed by Snowy Trail D1259 just to the right and behind him.  Next came the Snowy Leaf Tree G1273 on the right angled into the scene a bit.  Then I added Snowy Fir Tree Lg F1261 to the left of his antlers, and Snowy Firs Medium D1263 above his head and about in the center.  That set of trees create the horizon line.  Then I used a very versatile stamp, Sand C972 to add some texture to the snow.  And Winter Bush D1350 across the bottom of the scene.

Next came color, using a Colorbox Stylus I added Adirondack Lights Aqua around the edges of the scene, across the horizon and every where there is ground pattern as well as clouds in the sky.  A few accents were added to the trees with Tombow marker #491, the tuft of grass with Tombow #992 and the elk and branch were colored with Tombow #977.  The final steps were to add Stampscapes Gulls 302-A to the sky and to frame the top of the scene with the pine branch from Stampscapes Nature Sheet 1

Winter scenes are quite easy, they are all about leaving white spaces and adding just light shading on the snow.  Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Skating by Mo Manning

The challenge over at Copic Creations is to use your favorite color combinations. Mo Manning of Mo's Digital Pencil is this week's sponsor.

So I decided to create a scene around Bella and Bronte Skating. Aren't they just the cutest, I had to get them all; Toboggan and Jingle Bells.

I began by resizing the image and then printing it onto Cryogen white paper with my inkjet printer. I also printed the image onto Eclipse tape to use as a mask. Once I had her masked, I built the scene around her. The bank, birds, bushes and branches are all Stampscapes. The mountains are from Sutter.

So back to the challenge, I used my favorite combination of BG11 and BG13 for Bella's coat and R81, R83, R85 for her scarf and muff. Another favorite is BV01 and BV04 for Bronte's scarf. For the ground I used a combination of E51, E53, E55 and E33 with accents of B000. The frozen water and snowy areas is B0000, B000 and B00. I colored Bronte with E42, E43, and E44 (a great combination for animals) and then airbrushed B24 into the sky. Cute, huh? Finished size is 8.5 x 10.75 inches. Thanks for stopping by.

Bear, Bears, Bears

Here is a scene I made for my swap partner on the Yahoo Sutter group. It is a huge scene, 8.5 x 11 inches. I stamped on Cryogen white paper with Memento Tuxedo black ink and colored it with my Copic markers.

The branches and the birds are from Stampscapes, everything else is from Sutter Stamps. For those of you not familiar with scenic stamping, I blended about 18 stamps together to make this scene. I began with the big bear in the foreground, masked him off, then added the large central bear fishing scene. The rest was just find a stamp that fit and plug it in. I rarely plan my scenes, just start with a main stamp and build around it. I was very pleased with the end result.

Class samples

I taught class with my "girls" today. We made 2 cards from my other blog and then these two scenic cards.

The first one is an example of building a river. We started with the mountains at the top and then added stamps downwards until we ran out of paper, lol. The pine branch at the top, the prickly branches at the bottom and the water pattern are from Stampscapes, everything else is Sutter stamps. These were stamped on glossy paper with Marvy black ink and then color was added using a Colorbox Stylus tool with Adirondack dye inks. Small details were colored with Tombow and LePlume markers. Finished size is 5 x7 inches.

This next scene uses one of my favorite stamps, the boats and dock. But unfortunately it is a retired PSX/Inkadinkado stamp and no longer available. We stamped the boats/dock, then added right and then left Autumn Banks, instant scene. Again this was stamped on glossy paper, colored with a stylus tool and dye inks and small details were colored with Tombow and LePlume markers. Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

Vellum challenge

Over on the Sutter Yahoo group, there is a challenge to use vellum with your Sutter stamps. I decided to play this morning, when I should have been prepping for classes, but hey, a girl has to have some fun.

For my first card, I used this great Sutter Blue Jay stamp. I stamped it onto 36# vellum with Memories white ink. Then from the reverse side I dry embossed the image. I made the background paper by pouncing Copic alcohol ink onto glossy cardstock. Punched some decorative corners and I was done. Finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

For this next card, I stamped this wonderful Sutter Floral frame, again onto 36# vellum with Memories white ink. From the reverse I dry embossed the image and then added color with Memento markers. I pierced out the center area with a Pergamano 4-split tool. I think I will slide a photograph into that area. Once again, finished size is 4.25 x 5.5 inches.

I have forgotten how much fun vellum can be. Thanks for stopping by.

Fox at Play

Here is a scene I built around this wonderful fox stamp from Sutter Stamps.

Of course, using Memento ink on Cryogen white paper, I stamped the fox and then added the ledges to the right and left. I had to add some rocks on the right as well as a downfall tree to tie them all together. Then some grass to finish the foreground.

My next step was to add the river to create some distance, I added mirrored creek falls on the left to finish it off. Next came the cabin, which I masked and then added the mountains to both sides.

Coloring came next with my Copic markers, I airbrushed the sky. The last step was to add the birds and framing branches from Stampscapes.

Finished size is 8.25 x 10.75 inches.

Brayered Sutter Mountain scene

Since my brayer was still laying on my table and I had a bit of time before meeting friends for a Memorial Day cookout, I was inspired by some colors Michelle Zindorf used in her recent post.

I began by using Adriondack Brights Sunshine Yellow directly to my Xerox Heavyweight Matte cover and then smoothing it out with my brayer. My next step was to add a mask for the sun using Eclipse tape.

TIP: When punching or die cutting shapes out of the Eclipse tape, it is easier to adhere the tape to some lightweight cardstock before cutting it out. You will get cleaner edges that way.

With my mask in place, I bayered Adirondack Brights Sunset Orange to the bottom half of my card. Next, I added Adirondack Brights Watermelon to the top of the card. Then I heat set it and removed the mask. A little of the ink crept under the mask as I brayered a little more than I really needed too.

Then I stamped the mountain and cattails from Sutter Stamps, the boater, gulls and pine bough from Stampscapes with Archival Jet Black ink. Once again heat setting. And I was done.

In my Thoughts

On the Yahoo Sutter group, there is a challenge to create a Sympathy scene. Here is my contribution to the challenge. Hey, Jenny, I used pink, lol!

I began by stamping my girl from Repeat Impressions onto Cryogen white paper with Memento Tuxedo black ink. I masked her off and then stamped the lighthouse also from Repeat Impressions. Next came the grass around her feet from Sutter Stamps, the water pattern and the sand pattern, both from Stampscapes as well as the fence.

Using my Copic airbrush system, I colored the sky with B21 and B23. I also airbrushed E51 onto the sandy areas. For the rest I used these markers:
Water - B000, B00
Rocks - E70, E11
Grass - G40, G82
Buildings - R59
Lighthouse shading - C0
Flesh - E00
Dress - R81, R85, R89
Flowers - V15

The pine branches, the foreground brush and the gulls are from Stampscapes. I computer generated the saying. The corners are punched with an EK Success concave punch. Finished size is 5 x 7 inches.

Scenic class samples

I taught class again today with my very talented ladies; Edna, Bev, Elaine and Cheryl. We had great fun creating these fabulous cards.

This first scene uses a fantastic hawk from Beeswax, the farm is from Sutter and the rest of the stamps are Stampscapes. Each scene was stamped with Marvy Matchables black ink onto glossy paper from the Paper Cut.

I used Adirondack dye inks, along with Tombow markers for fine details. All ink was applied with a Colorbox Stylus.
Ground and grass: Latte, Lettuce
Distant Field: Latte
Hawk: Sandal, Ginger
Branch: Tombow 977
Barn: Tombow 837
Shading on barns and silos: Tombow N95
Sky: Cloudy Blue, Stonewashed

For this next scene, I began by stamping the bears from Sutter stamps, which I then masked with Eclipse Tape. Next came the mountains, then some rocks to continue the land that the bears are standing on, both from Sutter.

With the bears still masked I used these inks:
Water: Aqua, Pool
Mountain: Latte, Mushroom

I then removed the mask and continued to color.
Grassy areas: Lettuce
Land around bears: Latte
Rocks: Tombow 912
Bears: Tombow 977 followed by Tombow 912
Sky: Cloudy Blue, Stonewashed

The branches framing the scene top and bottom are from Stampscapes.

On to the third scene, I began by stamping the lighthouse stamp which includes the rocks and sandy dune from Repeat Impressions. The next step was to create a straight line mask for the horizon and add the water pattern from Stampscapes to fill out the water area. Next came the fence, stamped twice, just above the bottom of the scene and the sand pattern, both from Stampscapes. Time for color:
Sand: Sandal
Grass: Lettuce
Rocks: Tombow 912, Marvy LePlume 84 and then I tapped some Lettuce on top to warm them up some
Lighthouse: Marvy LePlume 28, Tombow N95
Water: Aqua, Pool
Sky: Cloudy Blue, Stonewashed

The final step was the pine branch framing the scene and the seagulls, both from Stampscapes.

For the last scene, I began by stamping the barn with wagon wheel stamp from Sutter Stamps. Masking just the barn, I added the mountains, also from Sutter behind it.

Using a small ground cover stamp, I added some additional texture in the barnyard areas. Next came color:
Barnyard: Latte
Grass: Lettuce
Barn, Fence and Wagon Wheel: Tombow 912, Tombow 977
Mountains: Latte, Mushroom
Rocks: Tombow 912 with Lettuce for shading
Sky: Cloudy Blue, Stonewashed

Final step was the branches from Stampscapes framing the scene.

Each of these cards is 4.25 x 5.5 inches. When done, I use a glossy acrylic spray to seal my work.

Sutter Bears Spring Card

Here is a quick little scene I did using stamps from Sutter.

I stamped the images on Cryogen paper with Memento ink and of course colored them with my Copic markers...

Water - B000
Rocks - E70, E71, E11
Ground - E52, E53
Grass, reeds, trees and pine - G24
Bears - E43, E44
Sky - B60
Mountains shaded with E70

I made this for a Spring Card challenge on one of my Yahoo stamping groups. These are quite simple to make, you can view my tutorial on Split Coast Stampers if you wish to give it a try.

The gold corners are Peel-Off stickers. Finished size is 5 1/4" square.

Heading Home

Here is a good example of what happens to airbrushing if you try to "touch it up" with your blender pen. The blending solution will quickly run into your airbrushed area and leave what looks like a water spot.

I airbrushed the sky but had a spot that spit and was unable to hide it. When I attempted to thin the spot out, I wound up with a huge diluted area. So the answer is to take your blender pen and with a circular motion, swirl the entire airbrushed area. As you can see from the sky, it has a kind of puffy cloud look now. Not the look I was going for but at least I saved the scene.

Panning for Gold

Here is a great river scene I did a while back for a swap on my Yahoo group. All stamps are from Sutter Stamps except the Stampscapes water pattern.

I think this is just such a peaceful scene. All coloring was done with Copic markers. I airbrushed the sky as well as adding some airbrushing to the water. Since I did this a while ago, I am not certain about the colors I used.

But I can list my favorite Copics for scenic stamping:

Grass - G40, G82 and E51 (I will often use E51 to give the grass a richer color, especially if it is a patchy grass)
Rocks - E70, E71, E11
Mountains - E50, E51 or E40, E41, or E70
Tree Trunks - E43, E44
Water - B00, B01
Sky - B21, B32, B41
Paths/Sand/Dirt - E50, E51
Log Cabin - E11, E13, E17

Thanks for stopping by. I am sorry I don't have new art but I will continue to post scenes you may not have seen until my hectic schedule slows down some.

Freedom

Here's a nice scene I made using Sutter Stamps. Of course I used Cryogen white paper and Memento inks.

I stamped the horses first, masked them and added the fences, the cabin, which I also masked and then the grass and mountains. I used the following Copic markers:

Grass - G40, G82
Sand - E53
Fences - e33
Cabin - E97, shaded with E99
Horses - C3, C4 and E33, E35

I airbrushed B32 in the sky with just a little bit of R81. I then added the branches and the birds. Finished size is 6.5 x 7 inches.
